Local company donates $25,000 to Bluffton Boys & Girls Club

Energy One America LLC, a foam insulation company in Bluffton, has announced a $25,000 donation to the Bluffton Boys & Girls Club.

The energy-saving company, which employs more than 60 people in Bluffton and the Carolinas, was the presenting sponsor of the Bluffton Boys & Girls Club’s Annual Gala on Saturday at the Colleton River Plantation Club.

Energy One America’s owner, John W. Guffey Jr., said in a news release that because he is grateful for mentors who helped shape his own choices growing up in New Middletown, Ohio, he feels a special connection with children in Bluffton.

“You cannot have a corporate mission that relies solely on making profits, although that is integral to growth and insures security for our employees and their families. My wife, Monique, and I have always believed that if positive change is going to occur, it has to begin with us, in our own home and community,” he said.

He added that “(club director) Molly Smith and her team pull miracles out of hats every day in these tough economic times, providing everything from fulfilling activities to nutritious snacks, tough love and discipline for the children. The program that Boys & Girls Club of Bluffton offers instills principles that last a life time and keeps on giving.

“My high school motto was, “If you can’t find a path, make one,” he said. “It has been a wonderful seven decades from that small Ohio crossroad, but I wouldn’t trade my journey for any other and hope to pave the way for great discoveries and experiences for our kids — right here in our own backyard.”

In January, Energy One America joined forces with H2 Builders and their Extreme Home Makeover team to provide Energy One foam insulation at no cost for a new home for a Beaufort Marine family. This summer the company will provide a summer intern scholarship for a Boys & Girls Club participant.

Energy One America is the largest residential foam insulation company on the East Coast. The company, with an office at 270 Red Cedar St., has grown from its first Bluffton entity to six divisions with the help of colleagues, T.J. Andersen, Drew Dumler, Kristie Cochran, Clint and Amy Allen, and Stephen Davis.
